Claudia L. McKoin Public Service Leadership Training Academy

The Federal City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is pleased to announce the sixth cohort of the Claudia L. McKoin Public Service Leadership Training Academy (McKoin Academy). The mission of McKoin Academy is to expand the number of women of color involved in public policy development by providing information and resources to encourage and empower them in the process, thereby increasing the number of women running and elected to public office.

Building off the success of the program’s previous cohorts, the McKoin Academy will provide participants with a series of robust, comprehensive training modules covering the fundamentals of developing and running a campaign for public office. The 2022 curriculum consists of six IN-PERSON workshops on Saturdays from January 22nd to June 11th, 2022.

*ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED OR PROVIDE PROOF OF A NEGATIVE COVID-19 TEST TAKEN WITHIN 72 HOURS OF COMING ONTO CAMPUS!*

The sessions will cover the following themes:

  1. Leadership Development

  2. Campaign Fundamentals

  3. Effective Communication

  4. Direct Voter Contact

  5. Campaign Finance

  6. Fundraising

In addition to the formal programmatic sessions, participants will have the opportunity to build and expand their networks through special events that occur outside of or in tandem with the curriculum. By the conclusion of the program, the goal is to develop a cohort of more politically aware women who will use the skills and tools they have gained to:

  1. Be an effective advocate and/or catalyst for their community’s social action issues;

  2. Take more political action in their local community; and

  3. Possibly run for elected office.

Participants must attend at least five of the six workshops in order to successfully complete the program.  McKoin Academy workshops are scheduled for the following dates: January 22nd, February 26th, March 26th, April 23rd, May 14th, June 11th, 2022
