The Federal City Alumnae Chapter Signature Award Nominations

The Federal City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated seeks to recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to the African American community in social action, public service, leadership, arts, science, education, communication and health. The FCAC Awards program was launched in 1992. For many years the chapter hosted an annual Awards luncheon.  In more recent years the chapter has presented awards throughout the calendar year during our community and fundraising events.

Barbara Jordan Social Action Award

JOTAKA L. EADDY

Ms. Jotaka L. Eaddy is the founder and CEO of Full Circle Strategies, LLC - a social impact consulting firm committed to advancing transformative change and global impact. Described as the “Olivia Pope of Silicon Valley” by Forbes Magazine, Jotaka is a seasoned strategist with more than 20 years of experience in policy, advocacy, and movement building.In 2020, she founded the movement #WinWithBlackWomen, an intergenerational, intersectional group of Black women leaders who come together to stand united in support of Black women. She is the host of the OWN Network Series Speak Sis and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

SALIM ADOFO

Mr. Adofo is a committed community servant with over 20 years of experience in community organizing and leadership. He serves as the Chair of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 8C. As Chair, he advises the federal and local government on matters concerning economic development, education, budget concerns, area infrastructure, public safety, and affordable housing for over 14,000 residents. In 2019, Salim was appointed to the Mayor’s Commission on African American Affairs. His role on the Commission is to advise the Mayor, the Council, and the public on the views and needs of African-American communities with low-economic, education, or health indicators in the District and to analyze the decline of African-American residents as indicated by the previous United States Census.

In addition to his many accomplishments, Mr. Adofo has also worked closely with FCAC on many community initiatives over the years and never hesitates to lend a hand when called.

Floretta McKenzie Education Award

MAURICE RUSSELL SYKES
Mr. Sykes is a veteran of the Washington DC education system. He is a former Executive Director at the University of DC’s National Center for Urban Education. He also served in the DC Public School System as Deputy Superintendent for its Center for Systemic Educational Change, as well as Director of the school system’s early childhood programs. In addition to working in the school system, Mr. Sykes has been an advisor to the US Department of Education on educational policy and programs.

Mr. Sykes is currently a Senior Associate at M Russell & Associates and serves as the Executive Director of the Early Childhood Leadership Institute in Washington, DC. Mr Sykes has spent his career advancing high-quality early childhood programs and services and has traveled nationwide inspiring and challenging community-based programs, schools and elected officials to do the right thing for children.

COLLEGE BOUND, INC.

College Bound, Inc. is a Washington, D.C. based, 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, whose mission is to prepare public and public charter school students (grades 8-12) in the metropolitan D.C. area to enter college, earn a degree, and achieve their personal and professional goals. Founded in 1991, the organization offers tutoring, mentoring, ACT/SAT preparation, and academic and career guidance free-of-charge to assist students in the District of Columbia metropolitan area in meeting their post-secondary educational goals. Since they were founded, College Bound has served hundreds of youth in the Washington DC area.
