The Federal City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is pleased to announce the next cohort of the Claudia L. McKoin Public Service Leadership Training Academy (McKoin Academy). The mission of McKoin Academy is to expand the number of women of color involved in public policy development by increasing the number of women running and elected to public office.

Building off the success of previous years, the academy will provide participants with a robust and comprehensive training in the fundamentals of developing and running a campaign for public office. McKoin Academy consists of five daylong workshops held on Saturdays from January 2020 to May 2020. The themes of the five sessions are:

  1. Leadership and the Fundamentals of Running for Elected Office
  2. Developing the Candidate
  3. Campaign Fundraising and Finance
  4. Campaign Management
  5. Effective Communications

In addition to the formal programmatic sessions, participants will have the opportunity to build and expand their networks through special events coordinated by partners of McKoin Academy.

By the conclusion of the program, the goal is to develop a cohort of politically active women who use the skills and tools gained to run for office and be an effective advocate for their communities.

Participants must attend at least three of the five workshops to successfully complete the program. McKoin Academy workshops are scheduled for the following dates: January 25, February 22, March 21, April 25, and May 30, 2020.

Applications for the 2020 Claudia L. McKoin Public Service Leadership Training Academy must be received by Monday, December 23, 2019, 11:59 p.m. EST. Decisions will be sent to applicants the week of January 6, 2020. Contact us at
