Educational Development

 

 
 

Many of the programs implemented by FCAC in the past have centered around Educational Development. FCAC sponsors a series of College Preparation Workshops to familiarize local high school students with college admission requirements and test taking, as well as sources of financial aid for higher education. In cooperation with the Washington Parent-Child Center, FCAC has counseled teen-age parents under its program, "Cherish the Children".   FCAC also held a Family Day Conference at the District Building in which noted authorities on the Black Family participated in panel discussions and workshops. Last year, FCAC sponsored a Roundtable on Parental Involvement as part of a Regional Day of Service Initiative.  Additionally, for many years, FCAC hosted an Historically Black Colleges and Universities Tour which aided countless youth in their quest for higher learningBelieving that education is one of the keys to survival in the future, FCAC annually awards scholarships to deserving District of Columbia public school graduating seniors.  For more information on the scholarships that we offer, please contact

Aware of the intense influence of the Arts, FCAC has promoted communityawareness of local artists. The chapter has been affiliated with the MIYA, Sun andSmith-Mason Art Galleries and has sponsored various art shows and workshops. The chapter most recently has produced an Emerging Artist Program and a Literary Exposition event that proved to be a wonderful expo of profound diversity and creativity. The chapter has also promoted cultural awareness by visiting local theatres, including the Kennedy Center, with youth from the District.
